Marianne Hesselbjerg was born in Denmark in 1949 and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1979 to 1986. Since the 1990s, she has been a member of the association at institutions such as the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and the Danish Art Foundation. Her works have been collected by institutions such as the Danish National Gallery, Kunsten Museum of Modern Art, Hygum Art Museum, Copenhagen City Hall, and the New Carlsberg Foundation.

 

Since the 1980s, Hersselbeer has been a member of the Danish art community, completing numerous works in museums, galleries, and public spaces. As one of the most important contemporary artists in Denmark, Marianne has a unique understanding of installation art, and the deconstruction of boundaries and definitions is a fundamental feature of her works. She is focus on reveal the basic principles of sculpture through her own works, while also connecting them with common human meanings.  

 

Marianne's installations are based on space and derive inspiration for form and materials from space. These works "grow" from the walls, without a base, or are placed directly on the ground, and reflect the spatial environment through materials such as aluminum and water. Therefore, in her creations, the importance of space is essential.
