MA Kelu, born in 1954 in Shanghai, is one of the founding members of the contemporary art group "No Name Painting Association" from the 1970s in China. MA has always been committed to the practice of the concept of "Returning Art to Ontology," aiming to achieve a principle of complete freedom in his artistic creation. In his early years, he relocated to New York and won an award at the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture. It wasn't until 2006 that MA returned to his hometown, continuing his abstract style with a broader perspective. 

 

MA’s recent solo exhibitions include: "Echoes", Yuan Art Museum, Beijing, China (2022); “1972–1984 Time, Scenery, Light and Life” / “Sacrifice of the Spring”, Platform China Contemporary Art Institute, Beijing, China(2020); “SELF-STATEMENT. Ma Kelu”, Platform CHINA, 798 BeiJing, China(2019). His works are in the collections of numerous international public institutions and private collectors, including the National Museum of China, Guangdong Museum of Art, Art Museum of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, Yuan Art Museum, Museum Of Contemporary Art of Yinchuan, Inside-Out Art Museum, Shanghai Himalayas Museum, Hong Kong M+ Museum, Goldman Sachs Bank, and Deshan Art Space, among others.
