Márta Kucsora:Never step into the same river twice

8 November 2024 - 21 February 2025
CoBrA Gallery is proud to announce the solo exhibition of Hungarian artist Márta Kucsora, titled 「Never Step into the Same River Twice」, which will open on November 8, 2024. This will also be the artist's first solo exhibition in Greater China. The exhibition will feature works from the past decade, offering insight into the evolution of Kucsora's creative journey.

"One cannot step into the same river twice." In the view of the ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus, change is the fundamental law of the universe. Nothing in the world is ever permanent; everything is in a constant state of flux and transformation. Through the works presented in this exhibition, we are invited to explore Kucsora’s reimagining of this ever-changing world from the perspective of the artist.

Kucsora closely observes the developmental processes of nature and the emergence of new phenomena. Her works often stem from a second interpretation of the landscapes that have left an impression on her. By experimenting with the mixing and blending of different paints, she maximizes the exploration of the unknown results that the physical properties of paint can bring to the canvas. Using painting as her entry point, Kucsora synchronizes herself with the viewer, guiding them into an unknown realm. Her works are dynamic and full of life, constantly exploring the relationship between flow and resistance in nature with the help of natural forces.

These works carry grand scenes and immense power, enveloping us in a new world. These scenes are either radical or misty, but all possess an almost innate tension—an energy not often seen in female artists' works. The experience is placed at the forefront by the artist, blending calmness, unease, and excitement. The floating of the night sky, the flickering of the universe seem to happen right before our eyes, only to fade into silence after our gaze.

Márta Kucsora, born in 1979 in Hungary, graduated from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2002. After graduation, she furthered her studies at Montclair State University in the United States, earning a master's degree in fine arts. This period not only shaped her artistic career but also equipped her with the creative skills to realize her artistic ideals. In 2006, she returned to Hungary and co-founded the Budapest Art Factory, marking the beginning of her artistic career. Kucsora's works are now part of numerous public and private collections across the UK, China, the United States, Germany, Hungary, and other countries.
